PRESIDENTIAL EXECUTIVE CLEMENCY
A PETITION TO
PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH
THE WHITE HOUSE

WHEREAS, Jonathan Pollard has repeatedly expressed his remorse publicly and in private in letters to many Presidents and others; he regrets having broken the law; and
WHEREAS, Jonathan Pollard’s life sentence is grossly disproportionate when compared to the sentences of others who have spied for allied nations; and
WHEREAS, Although the median sentence for his offense is 2 to 4 years, Jonathan Pollard has now served over 23 years in prison; and
WHEREAS, James Woolsey, former Director of the CIA, who has seen all the documents related to Jonathan Pollard’s case, has said that it is time for Jonathan Pollard to be released; and former federal prosecutor and New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani has said that he has seen the documents and that Jonathan Pollard’s sentence far exceeds the sentences served by other individuals who have been convicted of the same offence; and
WHEREAS, Jonathan Pollard spent 7 years in solitary confinement in the harshest unit of the harshest prison in the Federal System – FCI Marian; and
WHEREAS, Jonathan Pollard is in poor health having developed diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, pre-glaucoma, and arthritis while in prison.
NOW THEREFORE, we call on President George W. Bush to use his constitutional authority to grant executive clemency to, and commute the sentence of, Jonathan Pollard, and to set Jonathan Pollard free.
